Urlare (To Scream) is the first artwork in Linguaggi Umani, a series exploring scribbling as an instinctive form of human expression.
The painting originates from the physical sensation of screaming: the tension, the energy, the urgency of releasing something that cannot be contained.
Through overlapping lines, abrupt gestures, changes in pressure and spontaneous marks, I translate this sensation into a visual language. Some gestures are forceful, others hesitant or interrupted. Colours and lines accumulate, collide and coexist without following a predetermined structure.
I am not trying to represent what a scream looks like, or explain why someone screams. I am interested in the physical act itself and how its energy can pass through the body, the hand and onto the surface.
The scribble becomes a language without words, free from the obligation to communicate a specific meaning.
Urlare is not an image of a scream. It is the experience of screaming, expressed through the act of making marks.
