From My Studio to Paris

From My Studio to Paris - Barbara D'Angelo Månsson

Lately, my studio has been particularly full.

Works are leaning against one another, materials move from the table to the floor and back again, and new ideas are developing beside pieces I thought I had already finished.

This is probably the part of my practice I enjoy most: when there is no clear separation between one work and the next. A material used for one experiment suddenly suggests something for another. A decision that doesn't work becomes the beginning of something else.

I am still very much inside this process.

And yet, while I continue working here, another part of the studio is about to leave for Paris.

From 18–20 September 2026, my work will be presented with Galerie Helligkeit at Paris – Porte de Versailles, in a presentation curated by Luciana Grandi.

There is something I find fascinating about this transition.

Here in the studio, I know every trace of a work. I remember what disappeared beneath another layer, where I changed direction, where the material resisted what I wanted to do and where I decided to follow it instead.

At an art fair, all of that disappears. The work simply stands there, on its own.

Someone encounters it without its history and without me explaining what they should see. They bring their own associations, memories and questions to it.

Perhaps that is when a work really begins to exist independently.

In the meantime, I remain here—moving things around, pulling, drawing, covering, uncovering, and following whatever the next material decision brings.

But for three days in September, a small part of this studio will be in Paris.

If you happen to be in Paris, I would be very happy for you to encounter the work in person.
