Bio

Barbara D'Angelo Månsson, born and raised in Italy, developed an early passion for drawing and photography, using charcoal, ink and vintage cameras such as Polaroid and LoMo. These formative years laid the foundation for her artistic exploration, blending traditional techniques with a growing interest in contemporary art.

In 2011, she moved to Sweden to pursue her scientific career at the University of Gothenburg, where she discovered the Nordic art scene and began to focus on abstract painting. In 2015, in the United States, she delved into Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, inspired by Pollock, Rothko and de Kooning, and developed a style characterised by bold gestures and intense colours.

After returning to Sweden in 2017, she continued to experiment with materials such as sand, metal, plastic and wool, enriching her works with textures and layers. Barbara has participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe and the United States, earning awards and recognition. Her work, appreciated by international collectors, explores the relationship between perception, emotion and environment, in continuous artistic evolution.

"My artistic journey is shaped by a fusion of intuition and methodical exploration, where the initial spark of color or texture guides my creative process. Balancing this intuitive approach with the structured framework of my background in Molecular Biology, I embrace curiosity while rigorously refining my ideas. This interplay allows me to transform complex emotions into cohesive visual narratives.

Having lived in Italy, the USA, and Sweden, my artistic voice is deeply influenced by the cultural tapestries of these diverse countries. Italy's rich history inspires a profound appreciation for beauty and craftsmanship, while the vibrant energy of the USA and its art movements, particularly Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, encourage me to experiment and innovate. Meanwhile, the simplicity and connection to nature in Sweden instill a sense of balance and serenity in my work.

These varied experiences have enriched my creative vision. Each cultural element—from the warm hues of Italian sunsets to the clean lines of Scandinavian design—has left a subtle yet profound mark on my artistic expression. Ultimately, I strive to create art that resonates with viewers, fostering a sense of connection through the shared human experiences of love, loss, and discovery, all while exploring themes of tradition, heritage, and the beauty of the natural world."
